Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shengdi Dahuang Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula historically used as a hemostatic agent and for the treatment of acute hemorrhagic conditions such as intracerebral hemorrhage. The formula typically contains Rehmanniae Radix (Sheng Di Huang) and Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Da Huang). Preclinical studies indicate that it exerts anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting microglial activation and downregulating inflammatory mediators such as TLR4, NF-κB, TNF-α, and IL-1β in models of intracerebral hemorrhage. This leads to improved neurological function and reduced brain edema in animal models[1][2]. Its precise mechanism remains under investigation but is thought to involve modulation of neuroinflammation. It is used primarily within the context of complementary or alternative medicine for acute stroke management[3].
