Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shenge Bushen (also known as Shen Ge Bu Shen or Taizi Shenyue) is a Category 1.1 innovative traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) capsule developed by Xinjiang Huachun Biological Pharmaceutical in collaboration with Tsinghua University. It is formulated from the active fractions of three herbs: *Pseudostellaria heterophylla* (Taizishen), *Pueraria lobata* (Gegen), and *Epimedium* (Yinyanghuo). Approved by China's NMPA in December 2022, it is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate depression characterized by the TCM syndrome pattern of Qi and Yin deficiency and kidney Qi deficiency. The capsule acts through a multi-target antidepressant mechanism, including the inhibition of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) activity and direct neuroprotection of hypoxic neurons, without directly affecting the dopamine or norepinephrine systems.
