Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shengji Yuhong collagen is a topical traditional Chinese medicine formulation used primarily to promote wound healing in chronic ulcers, burns, diabetic foot ulcers, and other skin injuries. The formula is based on the classic "Sheng Ji Yu Hong Gao" (生肌玉紅膏), which contains a blend of herbal ingredients such as Angelica sinensis (Dang Gui), Angelica dahurica (Bai Zhi), Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Gan Cao), Lithospermum erythrorhizon (Zi Cao), Resina Draconis (Xue Jie/Dragon's Blood), Fraxinus chinensis, sesame oil, beeswax or honey, and calomel (mercurous chloride). Some modern formulations may include added collagen to further support tissue regeneration. The ointment acts by removing necrotic tissue ("removing slough"), promoting granulation tissue formation ("generating flesh"), reducing inflammation and pain, clearing toxins from wounds, improving local blood circulation ("invigorating blood"), moisturizing the skin barrier with oils/waxes/honey/collagen components, and accelerating re-epithelialization. Mechanistically it may upregulate growth factors such as FGF and EGF in wound sites; some studies suggest it modulates TGF-β signaling pathways involved in fibroblast activity and extracellular matrix remodeling[3][4][5][6]. It is widely used in China for chronic non-healing wounds.
