Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shengji Yuhong Gao (生肌玉红膏) is a traditional Chinese medicine topical ointment formulated from ingredients including licorice (甘草), angelica (当归), angelica dahurica (白芷), arnebia root (紫草), insect wax (虫白蜡), dragon's blood resin (血竭), and calomel (轻粉)[2][3][5]. The ointment is purple-red in color and has a mild odor. It is primarily used for its detoxifying, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and tissue-regenerating properties. Clinically, it is indicated for the treatment of skin ulcers that are slow to heal, abscesses with pus discharge, chronic wounds such as pressure sores and diabetic foot ulcers[1][4][6]. Mechanistically, it improves local microcirculation and promotes angiogenesis; modulates growth factors like bFGF; enhances immune response; inhibits bacterial infection; reduces inflammation and pain by suppressing prostaglandin E2 synthesis; regulates HIF-1α/VEGF pathways to improve tissue perfusion[4]. Modern studies confirm its efficacy in accelerating wound healing rates while reducing infection risk[6].
