Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shengjiang San is a classic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula composed of four primary herbal ingredients: *Bombyx batryticatus* (stiff silkworm), *Periostracum cicadae* (cicada slough), *Curcumae longae Rhizoma* (turmeric), and *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (rhubarb). Traditionally used to regulate the ascending and descending movements of Qi, clear heat, and resolve toxins, it is increasingly studied in modern clinical contexts for its potential therapeutic effects in chronic inflammatory and metabolic conditions. Specifically, it is being investigated for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy, where it is thought to exert multi-target effects including the inhibition of inflammatory pathways and the reduction of renal fibrosis. Research suggests that the formula may modulate key signaling molecules such as TGF-beta 1 and NF-kappa B to alleviate renal damage and improve kidney function.
