Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shengjing Capsule is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation widely used in China for the treatment of male infertility, particularly conditions such as oligospermia, asthenospermia, and nonobstructive azoospermia. The capsule contains a combination of herbal ingredients including Pilose antlers (deer antler), Chinese wolfberry (Lycium barbarum), Ginseng (Panax ginseng), Cordyceps sinensis, Semen cuscutae (Cuscuta seed), and Astragalus membranaceus. Its mechanism of action is believed to involve multiple biological pathways related to spermatogenesis and testicular function. Pharmacological studies suggest that it enhances antioxidant enzyme activity (such as superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase), reduces oxidative stress in testicular tissue, repairs pathological damage to testes and epididymides, increases sperm count and motility, improves normal morphology rate of sperm cells, upregulates integrin α6/β1 expression via the PI3K/AKT pathway in spermatogonial stem cells, and modulates key molecular targets including RPS6, MAPK1/3, MDM2, DDX5[1][3][5][7][8]. Clinical studies indicate efficacy with low incidence of adverse events for male infertility[3].
