Overview

Shengliptin phosphate is a selective, small-molecule dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor developed by Shengshi Taike Biopharmaceutical Technology (also known as Centaurus Biopharma) for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The drug works by inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, which is responsible for the rapid degradation of incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By maintaining higher levels of these hormones, shengliptin enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and suppresses glucagon secretion from alpha cells, thereby improving glycemic control. As of 2024, shengliptin phosphate is in Phase 3 clinical development in China, demonstrating potential as a potent once-daily oral therapy.
