Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shengmai oral liquid (also known as Shengmaiyin) is a widely used traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula derived from the classic prescription Shengmai San, which dates back to the Jin Dynasty. It is composed of three primary herbal ingredients: Ginseng (or Codonopsis pilosula), Ophiopogon japonicus, and Schisandra chinensis. Shengmai oral liquid is traditionally used to replenish Qi, nourish Yin, and promote the production of body fluids. In modern clinical practice, it is primarily indicated for cardiovascular conditions such as chronic heart failure, coronary heart disease, myocarditis, and arrhythmias, as well as for relieving fatigue (including Long COVID fatigue) and improving quality of life. The formula works through multi-target mechanisms, including improving myocardial energy metabolism, reducing oxidative stress, inhibiting apoptosis in myocardial and retinal cells, and regulating microcirculation.
