Overview
Shengmai San is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula composed of three primary herbs: *Panax ginseng* (Ren Shen), *Ophiopogon japonicus* (Mai Dong), and *Schisandra chinensis* (Wu Wei Zi). It is traditionally used to replenish Qi and generate fluids. In modern clinical practice, it is widely used for cardiovascular conditions, including heart failure, coronary heart disease, and preventing chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity. Research suggests it may also modulate gut microbiota and bile acid metabolism to improve glucose and lipid metabolism in obesity. It is available in various formulations, including decoctions, capsules, and injections (e.g., Shengmai Injection, Yiqi Fumai Lyophilized Injection).
