Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shengqing Tongqiao is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by the Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, affiliated with the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is specifically designed to treat mild cognitive impairment (MCI) associated with cerebral white matter lesions (WMLs). The formula is based on TCM principles of tonifying the kidney, resolving phlegm, and promoting blood circulation to open the orifices. Pharmacologically, Shengqing Tongqiao has been shown to exert neuroprotective effects by mitigating neuroinflammation, inhibiting microglial and astrocyte activation, and preserving the integrity of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Research indicates that it may downregulate the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway, thereby reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-1β, which are implicated in the progression of white matter damage and cognitive decline.
