Overview

Shengtaibufen (STBF) is a novel chlorin-based photosensitizer derived from chlorin e6 (Ce6) developed for photodynamic therapy (PDT). It is primarily used in dermatological applications, where it is topically applied and subsequently activated by red light (typically 630 nm). Upon activation, STBF generates reactive oxygen species, particularly singlet oxygen, which exerts potent antimicrobial activity against pathogens like methicillin-resistant *Staphylococcus aureus* (MRSA) and modulates cellular pathways to treat inflammatory conditions. Research indicates that STBF-PDT can reverse skin photoaging by activating the TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway, promoting dermal collagen synthesis and skin barrier repair. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for the treatment of moderate-to-severe acne vulgaris and chronic infected wounds.
