Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shengu Capsule is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the Fujian Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Based on the TCM principle of tonifying the kidney and strengthening the bone, the capsule is composed of several herbal extracts, including *Panax ginseng* and *Drynaria fortunei*. Pharmacologically, it works by modulating bone metabolism; it promotes osteoblast differentiation and bone formation while inhibiting osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, potentially through the regulation of the RANKL/OPG signaling pathway and estrogen-like effects on bone tissue. Clinical studies in China, including Phase III trials, have demonstrated its ability to increase bone mineral density and alleviate symptoms such as bone pain in postmenopausal women.
