Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shengxian Tang is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula originally described by Zhang Xichun in the early 20th century. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of "sinking of pectoral qi" (qi xian), a TCM diagnostic pattern characterized by shortness of breath, chest tightness, and respiratory distress. The classic formula consists of five herbal ingredients: *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi), *Anemarrhena asphodeloides* (Zhimu), *Bupleurum chinense* (Chaihu), *Platycodon grandiflorus* (Jiegeng), and *Cimicifuga heracleifolia* (Shengma). In modern clinical research, modified versions of Shengxian Tang are being evaluated for their potential to improve postoperative respiratory function in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) following surgical resection. The formula is thought to enhance pulmonary ventilation and gas exchange by tonifying and lifting the pectoral qi.
