Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shengxuexiaoban is a traditional Chinese medicine formula widely used in China for the treatment of primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), also known as idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. It is composed of natural indigo, cortex moutan (Moutan bark), forsythia, herba agrimoniae (Agrimony herb), and licorice. The formulation is designed to clear heat and detoxify the blood, cool the blood, stop bleeding, and dissipate stasis according to traditional Chinese medicine principles[2][6]. Modern pharmacological studies indicate that it can increase platelet counts by suppressing immune function and reducing platelet antibody production[1][6]. Mechanistically, it may block the interaction between platelet antibody-antigen complexes and Fc receptors on macrophages—thereby reducing phagocytosis—and modulate signaling pathways such as PI3K-AKT-mTOR involved in B cell and T cell regulation[6][8]. Network pharmacology studies suggest effects on transcription regulation, cell proliferation/differentiation (especially megakaryocytes), apoptosis processes via PI3K-AKT signaling pathway modulation[8]. It has also been reported to inhibit angiogenesis in vitro in ovarian cancer models[5].
