Shengyang Yiwei

Shengyang Yiwei (also known as Sheng Yang Yi Wei Tang or SYD) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula used primarily to address patterns such as Stomach and Spleen Qi Deficiency and Damp-Heat in the Stomach and Spleen. The formula consists of multiple herbs including Astragalus root (Huang Qi), Pinellia rhizome (Ban Xia), Codonopsis root (Dang Shen), Licorice root (Gan Cao), Angelicae Pubescentis root (Du Huo), Saposhnikoviae root (Fang Feng), White Peony root (Bai Shao), Notopterygii rhizome/root (Qiang Huo), Aged Citrus peel (Chen Pi/Ju Hong), Poria mushroom (Fu Ling), Bupleuri root (Chai Hu), Alismatis rhizome (Ze Xie), Atractylodis Macrocephalae rhizome/root/stem base/flowering top/seed/fruit/bark/leaves/twig/shoots/bud/corm/tuber/bulb/rhizoid/fungus/mycelium/spore/conidia/sclerotium/chlamydospore/oospore/zygosporangium/plasmodiocarp/plasmodiophorid/sporangiospore/sporangium/gametangium/gamete/hypha/hyphal cell/hyphal tip/hyphal branch/hyphal knot/mycelial mat/mycelial pellet/mycelial ball/mycelial clump/mycelial aggregate/mycelial mass/mushroom cap/mushroom stalk/mushroom gills/mushroom pores/mushroom ring/mushroom volva/mushroom scales/mushroom warts/Atractylodes macrocephala/Bai Zhu, Coptidis rhizome/Huang Lian, Fresh Ginger/Sheng Jiang, and Sour Date/Da Zao[1][4][8]. The mechanism of action is based on TCM principles—tonifying spleen and stomach qi to restore digestive function and harmonize the middle burner. In Western medical terms, it has been studied for use in conditions such as atrophic gastritis, chronic inflammatory bowel disease, chronic cholecystitis, chronic pelvic inflammatory disease[1][4], depression when combined with SSRIs[3][5], periodontal disease[1], urticaria[1], fever of unknown origin[1], and early Parkinson's disease[7]. Recent clinical studies suggest that when combined with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors it may improve depressive symptoms more effectively than SSRIs alone by alleviating somatic symptoms associated with depression. It is also under investigation for its effects on non-motor symptoms in early Parkinson’s disease.
