Overview
Shenhuang Granule (SHG) is a multi-component Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation. It is composed of six ingredients: Radix Ginseng (Renshen), Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang), Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata (Fuzi), Caulis Sargentodoxae (Daxueteng), Herba Taraxaci (Pugongying), and Hirudo (Shuizhi). [1] Based on TCM principles, the formulation is designed to strengthen vital energy, clear heat, detoxify, and promote qi and blood circulation. [2, 8] It has been investigated in clinical trials for several conditions, including postoperative ileus, sepsis, and severe COVID-19. [1, 2, 3] Network pharmacology and molecular docking studies suggest that its numerous active constituents act on multiple targets and biological pathways to exert its effects, which may include inhibiting viral invasion and modulating cytokine storms. [1, 4] The product has been manufactured by companies including Beijing Tcmages Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd and Tianjin Hongri Pharmaceutical Co., LTD. [1, 3]
