Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shenling Baizhu Powder is a classic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula first recorded in the Song Dynasty's "Taiping Huimin Hejiju Fang" (circa 1107 AD). It is composed of ten herbal ingredients—ginseng (Ren Shen), atractylodes rhizome (Bai Zhu), poria mushroom (Fu Ling), licorice root (Gan Cao), yam (Shan Yao), lotus seed (Lian Zi), coix seed/Yi Yi Ren, white hyacinth bean/Bai Bian Dou, cardamom/Fructus Amomi/Sha Ren, and platycodon root/Jiegeng. The formula is designed to tonify Qi and strengthen the spleen while removing dampness without causing dryness or heat. In TCM practice it is used for symptoms associated with spleen and stomach deficiency such as poor appetite, fatigue, loose stools or diarrhea. Modern research suggests it has anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and antioxidant effects; regulates cell signaling pathways; modulates gut microbiota; supports hepatic mitochondrial energy metabolism via the UCP2/AMPK/IF1 pathway; and may act through PI3K-Akt signaling[1][3][6]. Clinically it has been studied for ulcerative colitis[1], non-alcoholic fatty liver disease[3], diabetic nephropathy[6], chronic gastritis[7], irritable bowel syndrome[6], among other digestive disorders.
