Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shenmei is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapeutic candidate developed by Beijing Shanqing Pharmaceutical Technology for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). The formulation is primarily derived from extracts of *Panax ginseng* (Ginseng) and *Prunus mume* (Mume fruit). It is specifically designed to address the symptoms of GAD, such as persistent anxiety, tension, and autonomic nervous system hyperactivity, particularly in patients presenting with specific TCM syndromes like Dampness-Heat in the Spleen and Stomach. Clinical evaluation in China has progressed through Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials, where the drug's efficacy and safety have been compared against placebo and standard anxiolytics. The therapeutic mechanism is believed to involve the modulation of central neurotransmitter systems, including the GABAergic and serotonergic pathways, to achieve anxiolytic effects.
