Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shenqi Zengye Decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed for use as an adjunct in bowel preparation for colonoscopy, particularly in elderly patients. The formula is a modification of the classic "Zengye Tang" (Increase Fluid Decoction), which typically contains *Scrophularia ningpoensis*, *Ophiopogon japonicus*, and *Rehmannia glutinosa*, with the addition of Qi-tonifying herbs such as *Astragalus membranaceus* and *Panax ginseng*. In TCM theory, it is designed to treat "Qi and Yin deficiency," a state often associated with chronic constipation and poor response to standard laxatives in the elderly. By tonifying Qi and nourishing Yin, the decoction aims to moisten the intestines and improve the efficacy and safety of osmotic laxatives like sodium phosphate, leading to better bowel cleansing and reduced adverse effects.
