Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shenqimaixintong (Shenqi Maixintong capsule, SMC) is a traditional Chinese medicine compound formulation used primarily for cardiovascular health. It is designed to nourish vitality (Qi), improve blood circulation, regulate vital energy, and promote coronary circulation. Preclinical and clinical studies suggest that SMC can alleviate atherosclerosis by reducing lipid accumulation in macrophages and modulating cholesterol metabolism. Mechanistically, it upregulates the expression of ABCA1, ABCG1, LXRα (Liver X receptor alpha), PPARα (Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha), and PPARγ while downregulating PCSK9 expression in response to oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) exposure. This results in reduced inflammation and improved lipid handling within vascular cells[1][5]. Clinical drug trials indicate that SMC acts as an antiatherosclerotic agent by blocking the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway and downregulating pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF-α[5].
