Overview
Shenshitong is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed and manufactured by Liaoning Jindan Pharmaceutical. It is an approved therapeutic in China, primarily indicated for the treatment of urinary tract stones (urolithiasis), including kidney stones (nephrolithiasis), ureteral stones, and bladder stones. The formulation is a complex mixture of herbal ingredients, such as Desmodium (Jin Qian Cao), Vaccaria seed (Wang Bu Liu Xing), and Lygodium spore (Hai Jin Sha). Shenshitong exerts its therapeutic effects by promoting diuresis to increase urine flow, reducing inflammation in the urinary tract, and providing antispasmodic relief to the smooth muscles of the ureter. These actions facilitate the dissolution, fragmentation, and passage of calculi while alleviating associated symptoms like renal colic and dysuria.
