Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shenshuaikang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation used to treat chronic kidney disease (CKD) and also studied for acute kidney injury (AKI). It is a combination of four herbs: *Astragalus membranaceus* (Astragali Radix), *Rheum palmatum* (Rhubarb), *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Red Sage), and *Carthamus tinctorius* (Safflower). Administered as an enema, Shenshuaikang has been shown in studies to improve renal function, attenuate kidney fibrosis, and reduce inflammation. Its proposed mechanism of action involves multiple pathways, including the inhibition of the NF-κB inflammatory signaling pathway, reduction of cell apoptosis via the JNK/Caspase-3 pathway, and restoration of the microbiota-gut-kidney axis.
