Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shenxiong Huanglian detoxification granules (SXHLJD) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by the Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The preparation is a modified version of the classic Huanglian Jiedu Decoction, enriched with *Panax ginseng* and *Ligusticum chuanxiong*. It is designed to address the TCM syndromes of phlegm-stasis and toxin-internal resistance associated with cognitive decline. Mechanistically, the formula has been shown to improve cognitive function in animal models by modulating the gut-brain axis, inhibiting microglial activation, and suppressing the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway, which leads to a reduction in neuroinflammation and amyloid-beta (Aβ) deposition. It is currently utilized as a registered hospital preparation in China and is undergoing further clinical and preclinical evaluation.
