Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shenxiong Jieyu is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by Xiyuan Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, specifically indicated for the treatment of post-ischemic stroke depression (PSD). The formula is designed to address the TCM syndrome of 'qi deficiency and blood stasis,' which is commonly observed in patients recovering from stroke who subsequently develop mood disorders. It typically comprises herbal components such as *Panax ginseng* (Ren Shen), *Ligusticum chuanxiong* (Chuan Xiong), *Acorus tatarinowii* (Shi Chang Pu), and *Curcuma aromatica* (Yu Jin). Mechanistically, Shenxiong Jieyu is thought to exert its therapeutic effects by modulating monoamine neurotransmitter systems, including serotonin and dopamine, and by upregulating neurotrophic factors such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). Additionally, it demonstrates neuroprotective properties by reducing neuroinflammation and oxidative stress in the brain, thereby facilitating functional recovery and alleviating depressive symptoms.
