Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shenyi capsule is an oral anticancer pharmaceutical containing ginsenoside Rg3, a tetracyclic triterpenoid saponin extracted from the root of *Panax ginseng*. Developed by Dalian ShenFeng Pharmaceutical, it was the first Class I innovative traditional Chinese medicine approved by the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA). The drug is primarily utilized as an adjuvant therapy in oncology, particularly for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and gastric cancer, where it is used in combination with chemotherapy to enhance therapeutic efficacy and mitigate side effects. In the context of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), Shenyi capsule is being investigated for its potential to prevent postoperative recurrence following radical resection. Its mechanism of action is multi-faceted, involving the inhibition of tumor angiogenesis by downregulating vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), the induction of apoptosis in cancer cells through the regulation of Bcl-2 and Caspase-3, and the modulation of the host immune system by enhancing the activity of T-lymphocytes and natural killer cells.
