Overview
Shenzhu Guanxin Recipe Granules (SGR) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine (Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine) for the treatment of coronary artery disease (CAD) and stable angina pectoris. SGR is composed of seven herbal and animal-derived ingredients: Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Xiyangshen (Radix Panacis quinquefolia), Sanqi (Radix Notoginseng), Shuizhi (Hirudo), Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae), Cangzhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis), and Heye (Folium Nelumbinis). It is formulated to address Qi deficiency, turbid phlegm, and blood stasis, which are common TCM syndromes in patients with coronary heart disease. SGR has been shown to improve exercise tolerance, alleviate angina symptoms, and promote myocardial angiogenesis, potentially through the upregulation of PECAM-1/CD31 and VEGF expression, as well as the inhibition of PI3K/Akt signaling and platelet aggregation.
