Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shenzhuo Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula used primarily in the management of renal diseases, especially primary membranous nephropathy and tissue fibrosis. It is typically administered as part of a combined prescription with Mahuang Fuzi, resulting in the formulation Mahuang Fuzi and Shenzhuo Decoction (MFSD). The decoction contains a mixture of several herbs according to classical Chinese prescriptions. Clinical trials and preclinical studies indicate that MFSD can reduce proteinuria, improve kidney pathology, and promote remission in membranous nephropathy patients, demonstrating efficacy comparable to glucocorticoid and immunosuppressive therapies, but with a favorable safety profile. Mechanistically, research suggests the decoction modulates autophagy and inhibits the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, processes involved in podocyte injury and renal fibrosis[1][3][5][7].
