Shenzhuo Tang (also rendered as Shenzhuo Decoction) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula primarily used for the treatment of idiopathic (primary) membranous nephropathy (IMN/PMN). It is frequently administered as part of the Wenyang Huaji regimen, which combines Shenzhuo Tang with Mahuang Fuzi Tang (Mahuang Fuzi and Shenzhuo Decoction, or MFSD). The formula is specifically indicated for patients classified under the 'Shaoyin Taiyin syndrome' in TCM diagnostics. Developed and studied by Professor Baoli Liu at the Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shenzhuo Tang is thought to exert its therapeutic effects by modulating autophagy and the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Clinical evaluation has progressed through multicenter, prospective, open-label, and nonrandomized trials, primarily assessing clinical remission rates in patients with membranous nephropathy, often in the absence of concurrent immunosuppressive therapy.
