Shichimotsukokato (SKT) is a traditional Japanese Kampo medicine (TJ-46) composed of seven herbal ingredients: Rehmannia root, Angelica root, Peony root, Cnidium rhizome, Astragalus root, Phellodendron bark, and Uncaria hook. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of hypertension, particularly in patients with associated symptoms such as headache, dizziness, and stiff shoulders. Research indicates that SKT exerts antihypertensive and renoprotective effects, potentially by suppressing systolic blood pressure and preventing the loss of chloride channel 5 (ClC-5) in the renal proximal tubules, which helps reduce urinary albumin excretion.
