Overview

SHIFT + nanoICG is a nanomedicine formulation developed for the integrated diagnosis and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The formulation utilizes Super-stable Homogeneous Intermixed Formulation Technology (SHIFT) to disperse carrier-free indocyanine green nanoparticles (nanoICG) into lipiodol, an iodized oil commonly used in transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE). Administered via the hepatic artery, the formulation exploits the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect and the tumor-seeking properties of lipiodol to achieve specific deposition within liver tumors. This enables long-lasting near-infrared fluorescence imaging for surgical navigation, allowing for the detection of microsatellite lesions as small as 0.4 cm that are often invisible on preoperative imaging. The formulation also provides therapeutic benefit through embolization and has demonstrated improved stability and anti-photobleaching properties compared to molecular ICG.
