shIGF2 is a short hairpin RNA (shRNA) construct designed to silence the expression of Insulin-like Growth Factor 2 (IGF2) via RNA interference. In oncological research, particularly in studies of the tumor microenvironment, shIGF2 is utilized to investigate the role of stromal-derived IGF2 in promoting the growth and tumorigenicity of cancer cells, such as non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). By knocking down IGF2 in fibroblasts, researchers have demonstrated a significant reduction in the growth rate of associated tumor cells, highlighting the IGF2 pathway as a potential mediator of carcinoma-stromal interactions. This reagent is primarily used as a laboratory tool to study gene function and stromal-tumor crosstalk in preclinical models.
