Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shilajit extract is a purified, standardized preparation of shilajit, a mineral-rich, tar-like substance that naturally exudes from rocks in high-altitude mountain ranges such as the Himalayas and the Andes. It is composed primarily of humic substances, including fulvic acid and humic acid, along with dibenzo-alpha-pyrones (DBPs) and various trace minerals. In traditional Ayurvedic medicine, shilajit is utilized as a rejuvenator and adaptogen. Modern clinical research has investigated shilajit extract for its potential to support testosterone levels, improve sperm quality, enhance muscle strength and endurance, promote collagen synthesis, and preserve bone mineral density in postmenopausal women. It is widely marketed as a dietary supplement and nutraceutical ingredient.
