Overview
Shimian Granules (失眠颗粒, SMG) is a proprietary Chinese herbal medicine formulation developed and used in China for the treatment of insomnia and related mood disturbances. It is an improved formula based on Jieyuanshen, designed to have tranquilizing effects by "clearing heat" (*qingre*) and "nourishing the heart" (*yangxin*) according to traditional Chinese medicine theory. Clinical studies indicate that Shimian Granules can improve sleep quality, alertness, anxiety, and depression symptoms in populations such as shift nurses with sleep disorders. The mechanism appears to involve modulation of melatonin secretion and inflammatory cytokines (including TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6), suggesting both neuroendocrine and immunomodulatory effects[1]. The product has been used clinically for over a decade in China.
