Short hairpin RNA targeting SNHG16 (sh-SNHG16) is an experimental RNA interference (RNAi) therapeutic agent designed to silence the expression of the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) SNHG16. SNHG16 is recognized as an oncogenic lncRNA that is overexpressed in various malignancies, including prostate cancer, where it acts as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) by sponging microRNAs such as miR-373-3p. This sponging activity prevents the microRNA from inhibiting its natural targets, such as TGF-β-R2, thereby activating the TGF-β-R2/SMAD signaling pathway and promoting tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. By delivering sh-SNHG16, the SNHG16 transcript is targeted for degradation, effectively suppressing these oncogenic processes and serving as a potential strategy for cancer therapy.
