Overview

Shoutai Wan is a traditional Chinese medicinal (TCM) formula utilized by the Peking University Third Hospital as part of a sequential herbal therapy to treat infertility associated with decreased ovarian reserve (DOR). The protocol is typically used as an adjuvant to in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) to improve clinical pregnancy rates and ovarian function. The therapy involves a sequential administration of herbs: initially focusing on kidney-tonifying and blood-nourishing components (such as *Semen Cuscutae*, *Radix Angelicae Sinensis*, and *Radix Rehmanniae*) during the follicular phase, followed by modifications to promote blood circulation and support the luteal phase post-embryo transfer. Its mechanism of action is thought to involve the regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis, modulation of hormone levels including follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), and enhancement of the ovarian microenvironment and endometrial receptivity.
