Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shouwu Yizhi is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation primarily used for the treatment of cognitive disorders, including vascular dementia and Alzheimer's disease. It typically consists of several herbal components, most notably *Polygonum multiflorum* (He Shou Wu) and *Alpinia oxyphylla* (Yizhi). The formula is designed to "tonify the kidney and resolve phlegm," according to TCM principles. Pharmacologically, it has been shown to exert neuroprotective effects by reducing oxidative stress, inhibiting neuronal apoptosis, and modulating the cholinergic system to enhance memory and cognitive function. It is often studied in the context of improving cerebral microcirculation and protecting against ischemia-reperfusion injury.
