Overview
Shouwujiangqi decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the Zhangjiagang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, which is affiliated with Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine. It is specifically indicated for the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), particularly in patients presenting with the 'kidney deficiency and phlegm-stasis' pattern. The decoction is composed of several herbal ingredients, including processed *Polygonum multiflorum* (He Shou Wu), which are thought to work synergistically to regulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis, reduce serum androgen levels, and improve insulin resistance. By addressing these underlying hormonal and metabolic disturbances, the therapy aims to restore regular ovulation and improve clinical symptoms such as menstrual irregularity and infertility associated with PCOS.
