Overview

SHP640 (formerly FST-100) is an investigational ophthalmic suspension containing a fixed-dose combination of 0.1% dexamethasone and 0.6% povidone-iodine. Originally developed by Foresight Biotherapeutics and later acquired by Shire, the therapy is designed to treat acute adenoviral conjunctivitis by addressing both the underlying viral infection and the resulting ocular inflammation. Povidone-iodine acts as a broad-spectrum antiseptic with rapid virucidal activity, while dexamethasone is a potent corticosteroid that reduces inflammatory symptoms. The product has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials for infectious conjunctivitis, including both adenoviral and bacterial forms.
