Overview

SHR-1816 is a fusion protein drug candidate that acts as an agonist of both the glucagon receptor (GCGR) and the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1R). It is being developed primarily for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The drug was initially developed by Beijing Suncadia Pharmaceuticals and is currently under development by Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals. Its mechanism of action involves dual activation of GCGR and GLP-1R, which are targets relevant to glucose metabolism and regulation. As of early 2025, SHR-1816 has reached Phase 1 clinical trials focused on evaluating its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and immunogenicity in healthy subjects[1][2][4].
