SHS gel is a multifunctional composite hydrogel developed by researchers at Xiang'an Hospital of Xiamen University, specifically designed for the treatment of infected wounds. The formulation consists of a silk fibroin (SF) and hyaluronic acid (HA) matrix integrated with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The silk fibroin and hyaluronic acid provide a biocompatible, porous scaffold that mimics the extracellular matrix, promoting cell adhesion, migration, and proliferation. The silver nanoparticles provide broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including antibiotic-resistant strains, by disrupting bacterial membranes and generating reactive oxygen species. This combination aims to accelerate wound closure, reduce inflammation, and prevent infection in chronic and acute wound scenarios.
