Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shserpin-p46 is a recombinant protein subunit vaccine candidate under preclinical development for the prevention of urogenital schistosomiasis caused by *Schistosoma haematobium*. The vaccine antigen is a secretory serine protease inhibitor (serpin) from *S. haematobium* that is expressed during the intra-mammalian life cycle stages and localized to the parasite's tegument. Shserpin-p46 acts by inhibiting host neutrophil elastase, a key serine protease involved in host immune responses, thereby preventing parasite evasion. Formulated with proprietary TLR4-agonist-based adjuvants, EmT4 and LiT4Q, Shserpin-p46 is designed to induce protective immune responses and disease resistance.
