Overview

Shuanghe Tang (Ssanghwa-tang, SHT) is a Yin-tonification herbal formula originating from traditional Chinese medicine, also widely used in Korea and Japan. It is composed of nine medicinal herbs. Traditionally, it is used for balancing yin and yang energies, alleviating fatigue, pain, and inflammation, and improving overall vitality. In vitro studies have shown that Shuanghe Tang inhibits the activities of human cytochrome P450 (CYP) isozymes, specifically CYP1A2 and CYP2E1. Modern research also indicates its hepatoprotective, anti-melanogenic, analgesic, and antioxidant properties. It has been studied for its potential to attenuate post-ischemic brain injury and edema in stroke models and to suppress airway inflammation.
