Shuanghuang Shengbai is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulation primarily used to prevent and treat myelosuppression (bone marrow suppression) caused by chemotherapy in cancer patients. It is available as granules or oral liquid. The main bioactive ingredients are Astragaloside IV and saponins from Rhizoma Polygonati. Mechanistically, it promotes the proliferation of bone marrow hematopoietic stem cells and increases white blood cell counts by modulating specific microRNAs (such as upregulating miR-106b*, miR-144, miR-669k* and downregulating miR-142-3p, miR-210, and miR-223). Additionally, it inhibits the proliferation of lung cancer stem cells via other microRNA pathways. Clinical studies have shown that Shuanghuang Shengbai can reduce rates of neutropenia and other forms of myelosuppression during chemotherapy without promoting tumor growth[1][2][3][4][7].
