Shufeinidone (WXSH0150) is an investigational small molecule anti-fibrotic agent developed by Wuxi Zhikang Hongren New Drug Development for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). It is a structural analogue of pirfenidone, designed to improve the pharmacokinetic profile and safety compared to the parent compound, specifically aiming to reduce common adverse effects such as photosensitivity and gastrointestinal toxicity. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) synthesis and signaling, as well as the suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines like tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). By modulating these pathways, shufeinidone aims to attenuate fibroblast proliferation and collagen deposition, thereby slowing the progression of lung scarring and preserving respiratory function in patients with IPF.
