Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Shugan Jianpi Granules is an oral Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation produced by several manufacturers, including Beijing Tcmages Pharmaceutical, Chongqing Peidu Pharmaceutical, Jiangsu Kangyuan Pharmaceutical, and Guangdong Zongsheng Pharmaceutical. Based on TCM principles, the drug is designed to soothe the liver, invigorate the spleen, and harmonize the stomach, specifically targeting 'liver qi stagnation' and 'spleen deficiency'. The formulation contains a blend of herbal ingredients, notably Radix astragali (Huang Qi), Radix bupleuri (Chai Hu), and Radix angelicae alba (Dang Gui). It is primarily indicated for the treatment of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D), cancer-related fatigue in breast cancer patients, functional dyspepsia, and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Clinical evidence suggests that the granules improve symptoms such as abdominal pain and fatigue, with a mechanism of action in IBS-D that may involve the reduction of serotonin-positive cells in the gut mucosa. Additionally, a related formulation (Shugan Jianpi plaster) has been studied for chronic hepatitis B.
