Overview
Shugan Jianpi Huoxue Formula is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal composition developed by Beijing Ditan Hospital Capital Medical University. It is designed based on the TCM therapeutic principles of soothing the liver (Shugan), strengthening the spleen (Jianpi), and activating blood circulation to resolve stasis (Huoxue). The formula is primarily investigated for the prevention of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with compensated hepatitis B-related cirrhosis. It is believed to exert its effects through pleiotropic mechanisms, including the regulation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, promotion of apoptosis via caspase-3 activation, and inhibition of inflammatory pyroptosis by reducing the expression of IL-1β and caspase-1. In clinical trial settings, it is evaluated for its ability to reduce HCC incidence and is often studied in conjunction with multi-omics and deep-learning-based early warning systems for early cancer detection.
