Overview
Shugan Liqi Fang (疏肝理气方) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula designed to "soothe the liver and regulate qi," a therapeutic principle used to treat patterns of Liver Qi Stagnation. While specific compositions may vary by hospital or practitioner, the formula typically includes herbs such as *Radix Bupleuri* (Chai Hu), *Rhizoma Cyperi* (Xiang Fu), *Fructus Aurantii* (Zhi Ke), and *Radix Paeoniae Alba* (Bai Shao). It is widely utilized in clinical practice in China for conditions associated with emotional distress and autonomic dysfunction, most notably functional dyspepsia, chronic gastritis, depression, and hyperplasia of mammary glands. Research suggests that the formula exerts its effects by modulating gastrointestinal motility, regulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, and balancing neurotransmitters such as serotonin and gastrointestinal hormones like motilin and gastrin.
