Shuiniujiao Dihuang Decoction with Variation (SDD) is an empirical Chinese medicine formula developed by Prof. Zhi-Xiu Lin at the School of Chinese Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is composed of 23 Chinese herbal medicines, including Rehmanniae Radix (Dihuang), Bubali Cornu (Shuiniujiao), Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chishao), Moutan Cortex (Mudanpi), Scrophulariae Radix (Xuanshen), and Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong). SDD is being investigated as a potential anti-psoriatic pharmaceutical agent for the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris. Its traditional mechanism of action involves eliminating pathogenic heat, expelling blood stasis and dampness, nourishing yin, and providing antipruritic effects.
