Overview

Shujiele Granules (舒解乐颗粒) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of depression. It is specifically indicated for patients diagnosed with the TCM syndrome of liver qi stagnation and spleen deficiency. The preparation is composed of multiple herbal extracts, including Bupleurum chinense and Paeonia lactiflora, which are traditionally used to soothe the liver, relieve depression, and harmonize the spleen. Pharmacological research indicates that Shujiele Granules may exert its antidepressant effects by modulating the neuroendocrine-immune system, specifically by regulating the levels of monoamine neurotransmitters such as serotonin (5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE) in the central nervous system, and potentially balancing the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. It has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials in China, showing potential efficacy in improving depressive symptoms with a safety profile that is generally superior to some conventional chemical antidepressants.
