Overview

*Shuteria involucrata* (Wall.) Wight & Arn., known as "Tong-qian-ma-huang" in Dai folk medicine, is a traditional medicinal plant native to southern China. It is primarily recognized for its efficacy in treating respiratory conditions, including allergic and obese asthma. The roots of the plant contain a variety of bioactive compounds, most notably the involucrasins (A, B, C, and D), renifolin F, and other flavonoids. These components exert potent anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the TLR4/NF-κB and NLRP3 inflammasome signaling pathways, thereby reducing the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α. Furthermore, research has demonstrated that involucrasin A possesses anticancer properties against colorectal cancer cells by modulating the Akt/MDM2/p53 pathway, leading to apoptosis and inhibition of cell proliferation. While currently in the preclinical research stage, *S. involucrata* represents a significant source of natural lead compounds for inflammatory and oncological therapeutic development.
